Enterprise EHR Connections Accelerate Meaningful Data Exchange

Why they’re a win-win-win for providers, payers, and EHRs

I couldn’t be more thrilled to share that Moxe’s first enterprise EHR connection—with Greenway Health—went live at the end of May, providing secure, timely access to data from over 400 (and growing) Greenway sites. Prior to the go-live, requestors had to query individual sites for data: a manual and often time consuming process for both the requestor and the provider.

Our partnership with Greenway emerged from our payer partners expressing their hope for an easier way to access data from EHRs like Greenway. Not only is the Moxe-Greenway Health enterprise EHR connection a huge win for payers and other requestors, but also for Greenway providers and the EHR itself.

As we celebrate the initial success of our partnership with Greenway, we look forward to expanding our enterprise EHR offerings. We know enterprise EHR connections are an important factor in improving payer-provider data exchange and reducing administrative waste in healthcare.

The problem an enterprise EHR connection solves

Imagine you’re a small practice trying to keep up with an increasing number of requests for data from payers and other requestors. You’re trying to figure out how to comply with regulations, meet deadlines, and safeguard your patients’ privacy. You’re likely trying to do all of this without a dedicated ROI team and with an increasingly tight budget. You’re frustrated because patients are your priority, but you know this “data thing” is a necessary evil.

Now, imagine you’re a payer who needs data for a member from multiple providers all on the same EHR, but there’s no centralized request process. Your team must identify and complete different request processes for each site at which a member was seen, often using antiquated tools like phone or fax that require a heavy manual lift. There is a feeling that with every request, your team is increasing friction with providers.

It’s not only providers and payers that are feeling pressure to do more data exchange with less resources, but EHRs are also feeling pressure from their providers to help them solve the problem of data exchange, improve efficiency, and reduce their workload.

Enter Moxe’s enterprise EHR connection. When Moxe connects directly to an EHR like Greenway, it enables providers to connect to a data exchange network that’s purpose-built for security, compliance, and trust. Moxe’s enterprise EHR connection allows providers to digitize their ROI workflow and automate a significant number of ROI requests. This, in turn, allows their team to focus on what matters most to them (and should!): patient care.

If all Greenway sites opt in, we have the potential to connect to 55,000 providers, who serve approximately 100 million patients.

On the payer side of the equation, Moxe’s enterprise EHR connection means payers no longer need to query individual sites. Instead, they can query one connection and be able to get data on members who were seen at any site that’s met the requirements to connect through Moxe’s enterprise EHR connection. As the #1 Best in KLAS payer-provider data exchange solution, we understand what payers need, and we deliver data in the format they need it.

From an EHR’s perspective, an enterprise connection with us takes the heavy lift of implementing secure data exchange away from them so they can focus on what they do best: serving the provider. When an EHR partners with us, we take on the bulk of the technical development and implementation so they can help their providers meet regulatory requirements, improve documentation efficiency, and reduce payer abrasion without taking on a heavy technical burden or the need to manage the complexities of every unique payer. Through our revenue-sharing model, an enterprise connection with us can also provide a new income stream for the EHR.

What sets Moxe’s solution apart

When I think about what sets our enterprise EHR offering apart, I think of a few things:

  1. Our mode of partnership: We meet EHRs where they are from a technical perspective and take on the majority of the development to ensure data will be shared securely, efficiently, and in the format that supports the use cases for which payers need it.
  2. Our deep understanding of what payers need: We were recently named #1 Best in KLAS for Payer-Provider Data Exchange. With our enterprise EHR connections, we don’t just turn on a data firehouse: We figure out what data payers need and how they need it. We deliver the right data, to the right place, at the right time, in the format it’s needed.
  3. Our neutrality: Our enterprise EHR connections allow the EHR to maintain a primary focus on the provider, while we manage the needs of the payers. Our model avoids any potential conflicts of interest that could arise when an EHR tries to serve both providers and payers.
  4. Our transparency: We provide real-time reporting for all parties; the EHR, the individual provider level, and the requestor of data. This transparency ensures that the EHR and providers understand exactly what is happening with their data. Transparency is also one of our core values, and the way with which we engage with each of our partners reflects this.

Good news from Greenway, and what’s next

David Cohen, Chief Product and Strategy Officer from Greenway Health, said this about implementing an enterprise EHR connection with Moxe:

Greenway’s enterprise connection with Moxe allows us to focus on what we do best—delivering innovative EHR solutions and high-quality interoperability for our providers. By leveraging FHIR-based APIs across Intergy, Prime Suite, and Novare, we avoid the complexity of building payer-specific integrations while enabling Moxe to deliver the right data to the right payer in the right format. The result is faster onboarding, reduced administrative burden for providers, and a scalable foundation for the future of payer-provider data exchange.

If all Greenway sites opt in, we have the potential to connect to 55,000 providers, who serve approximately 100 million patients. We look forward to seeing the tangible results of our first enterprise EHR connection for providers, payers, and Greenway Health itself. We continue to hear from EHRs that they are facing challenges similar to those that Greenway faced.

As we look to the future, we are working on a full-service platform that will include bidirectional data exchange to support all payer use cases–a natural evolution of what we’re already doing. We want to be anywhere clinical data is needed, and there is an ever-increasing need!
